Devan Richter and Paul Papoutsis of Chicago Named NWCA All-Academic

University of Chicago wrestlers Devan Richter and Paul Papoutsis were both named All-Academic honorees by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Wednesday.

The Maroon duo made the list of 182 All-Academic individuals. Nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous full academic year. Other qualifications include: national qualifier in 2015-16 with a minimum win percentage of at least .500; or placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events; or if they have a win percentage of .670 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events.

Richter compiled a season record of 20-5 and was second on the team in wins as a sophomore. He was the University Athletic Association (UAA) champion at 125 pounds and he finished fifth in his weight class at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Richter also led the team with 15 pins.

In his junior season, Papoutsis led the team in victories with a 29-13 record at 174 pounds. He compiled seven pins and five technical falls on the season and placed fourth at the NCAA Midwest Regional in his weight class.
