From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Select members of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed on Friday at the Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

Competing in the 125-pound weight class, freshman Jacob Frisch opened the tournament with a 14-9 decision over Heidelberg's Mason Brainard. After falling by technical fall to Messiah's Lucas Malmberg, the one seed in the bracket, Frisch's day was ended by a technical fall loss against Seth Transue of Ohio Northern.

Competing in the 141-pound weight class, freshman Andrew Hoover lost his first round match to seventh seeded Grant Morrison of Chicago. Hoover earned a 3-1 decision victory over EW-Eau Claire's Jordan Meyer, but then would later fall Manchester's Chase Wilson by technical fall, the one seed in the 141-pound bracket.

Freshman 149-pounder Michael Petersen lost his first-round match to UW-La Crosse's Grant Sutton by major decision. Petersen bounced back to pick up a technical fall victory (15-0) over Toby Warrington of Muskingum. His day was ended by an 11-6 loss to Wisconsin Eau Claire's Carter Focht.

Competing in the 197-pound weight class, sophomore Gavin Dersh-Fisher suffered a 3-0 loss to eighth-seeded Tyler Vittal of North Central in the first round. Dersh-Fisher bounced back to earn a 2-1 victory over Trine's Anthony Neal. His day was ended by an 11-0 major decision loss to Ferrum's Hunter Goulart.

The four Spartans combined to score 7.5 points for the Spartans during the Invitational. Action at the Pete Willson Invite will continue on Saturday, although no CWRU wrestlers will be competing.
