Joe Narvaez Added to NYU Staff

From NYU Athletics

Joe Narvaez has been hired as an assistant coach of the New York University wrestling team. He will assist in recruiting, while also organizing workouts for the wrestlers and coaching during matches.

Narvaez comes to NYU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Centenary University. Prior to that, Narvaez served as an assistant coach for 12 seasons at the University of Southern Maine, where helped produce four All-Americans and 10 national qualifiers.

"Joe will be a great asset to our program," said NYU Head Coach Bruce Haberli. "He brings an expertise in upper-body wrestling, which is something we have not dealt a lot of time with in the past. He has been around the sport for a long time and knows it well. We are looking forward to having him on our staff."

A 1997 graduate of American International College, Narvaez earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He wrestled four season for the Yellow Jackets and was a captain for three, including his senior season when he helped lead the squad to a top-15 finish at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Follwing his career at AIC, Narvaez made the 1999 Puerto Rican Greco-Roman National Team and placed third in the New York Athletic Club Holiday International Wrestling Championships.

"I am excited to help NYU work towards its goal of winning a national championship," said Narvaez. "I have known Bruce and the staff for a long time, and I look forward to working with them and the student-athletes."
