In a competitive field filled with nationally-ranked individuals and squads, the University of Chicago wrestling team had three of its wrestlers place in their respective weight classes at the Concordia (Wis.) University Open on Saturday.

The best results of the day came at 174 pounds. Junior Nick Ferraro and sophomore Jason Lynch bulldozed through the weight class with matching 4-0 records. Ferraro posted a pair of technical falls (15-0 and 18-2) with one pin. Lynch also recorded two tech falls (16-0 and 18-3), along with one major decision. The teammates met up with each other in the final but did not wrestle the match.

The other wrestler who got onto the podium was Kahlan Lee-Lermer at 149 pounds. The freshman finished sixth with a 4-3 record that included three pins.

"I was pleased to see Ferraro and Lynch decimate the 174 weight class all the way to the finals," said Head Coach Leo Kocher. "It was the first time Chicago has had the two finalists at one weight in this tournament. This is a national-caliber tournament – certainly what our young wrestlers needed in order to see where they are and where they want to be. I don't mind losing tough matches against nationally-competitive people early in the season – quite frankly, it is instructive and a big motivator. We will look to heal up for a week and then get back to work."
