Led by two weight class champions, the University of Chicago wrestling team placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Saturday.

Central (Iowa) College won the team title with 133.5 points. The Maroons were fourth with 89.5 points.

The top Maroon performances on the day came from Steve Bonsall and Nick Ferraro. Bonsall won the 157-pound title as the freshman went 5-0 on the day. Three of his victories were by decision, including a narrow 6-5 win in the final. He also pinned his second opponent in the second period, and won via major decision in the semifinals.

Ferraro was the champion at 174 pounds. The junior was 4-0 en route to the title with dominating performances throughout. He recorded first-period pins in his opening match and in the final. Those falls sandwiched a pair of major decisions (12-1 and 10-0).

Grant Morrison took third at 141 pounds, bouncing back from a 6-5 defeat in his opening match. The freshman went on to win the next four matches in-a-row via pin, 9-8 decision, 10-1 major decision and 9-2 decision in the third-place match.

Three other wrestlers made the semifinals in their brackets – senior Michael Sepke at 165 pounds (fourth place), sophomore Mason Williams at 149 pounds (fourth) and freshman Kahlan Lee-Lermer at 149 pounds (fifth). All three wrestlers went 3-2 on the day.

Sophomore Patrick Mulkerin rounded out the top finishers by taking fifth at heavyweight with a 4-2 record. He won the fifth-place match by a 5-2 margin.
