Chicago Wins One Title With Two Runners-up at Trine Invitational

The University of Chicago wrestling team put together a number of impressive performances at the Trine University Invitational on Saturday. Four Maroons ended up placing in the top three of their respective weight classes.

Freshman Kyle Peisker made his collegiate debut at 157 pounds and dominated with a 5-0 record to win his bracket. After an opening pin, Peisker put together two technical falls and a major decision to reach the final. Once he got there, he won an 18-14 barnburner to snag the title. He totaled 67 points in his final four matches of the day.

Senior Michael Sepke continued his strong start to the season by placing second at 165 pounds. He finished with a 4-1 record. Freshman Kahlan Lee-Lermer was also a runner-up, going 2-1 at 149 pounds with one pin. Freshman Steve Bonsall took third place at 157 pounds with a 6-1 mark. His wins included three majors and one tech fall.

Other notable performers included freshman Grant Morrison (141 pounds) and sophomore Jason Lynch (184 pounds). Morrison went 4-2, reeling off four-straight victories by margins of 19-1, 9-0, 16-9 and a pin. Lynch had a 3-2 record with two tech falls and one major decision.
