CWRU Wraps Up Competition at RIT Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team was in action on Saturday in its first invitational-style meet of the year, competing at the RIT Invitational in Rochester, New York.

Senior Nate Lewis paced the Spartans, contributing 14.0 points towards the team total and earned a sixth-place finish in the 285 pound weight class. He earned a fall to open the day, pinning Thiel's Eli Swain in 2:38. After dropping his next match, Lewis tallied four consecutive victories, including a pin against RIT's Temuulen Enkjhargal (1:52), a pin against Lycoming's Tom Lynd (1:13) and a major decision victory against Scranton's Will Oxley (11-3).

Sophomore Alec Hoover added another 10.00 points towards the Spartans score and finished sixth in the 125 pound weight class. He picked up three wins on day, including a pin against Thiel's Cory Bable (4:12) and a pin against Oneonta's Michael Muldoon (2:33).

Sophomore Jacob Frisch and freshman Michael Hughes also picked up sixth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Frisch contributed 9.00 points to the team total and earned three consecutive victories during the consolation round of the 133 pound weight class. He picked up a major decision victory against Wesleyan's Kasim Khan (13-1) and also earned a pin against Oneonta's Andrew Desousa (0:47). Hughes contributed 8.00 points to the team total and picked up two victories in the 197 pound weight class. His victories came by sudden victory-2 over Oneonta's Peter Pjetri and by pin against Wesleyan's Zachary Turner (6:19).

Other scorers on the day for CWRU included sophomore Andrew Hoover in the 141 pound weight class. He earned 6.5 points after picking up two victories by major decision and one by fall. Sophomore Michael Petersen also totaled 6.5 points in the 149 pound weight class, including three straight victories in the consolation rounds. Junior Brian McNamara and sophomore Isaac Collier each contributed 4.5 points to the team total, as McNamara earned three wins in the 285 pound weight class, and Collier picked up two wins in the 157 pound weight class.

CWRU wrestlers totaled 44.5 points during the competition to finish ninth in the team standings at the meet.
