Andrew Hoover of CWRU Earns All-UAA Honors at 2018 UAA Wrestling Championships

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Andrew Hoover was named the All-University Athletic Association wrestler in the 141-pound weight class, as the Spartans finished third at the 2018 UAA Championships, hosted by the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans finished third in the team standings after falling 31-15 to New York University, and dropping a 40-3 match against the 23rd-ranked University of Chicago. Chicago would eventuall win the UAA Championships with a 21-19 win over NYU.

The Spartans dropped to 5-5 on the season, while NYU now stands at 12-10, and Chicago ended the day with a 10-3 record.

Versus New York, the Spartans fell back early dropping their first two matches. Andrew Hoover earned the victory at 141 pounds to put CWRU on the board after picking up an 11-9 (SV-1) decision over Will Crisco. The Violets took the next four matches, before senior Nate Tommas won by forfeit at 184 pounds. The Spartans earned their final points at 285 pounds after Nate Lewis pick up a victory via forfeit.

Versus Chicago, Andrew Hoover gave the Spartans their only points of the match after he earned a 5-1 decision over Alec Gleason. Hoover becomes the third Spartan in the 141-pound weight class to earn the All-UAA honor, and the first since Clay Criss in 2009.
