The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team placed seventh at the seventh-annual Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday, January 6th in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Andrew Munn, junior Brian McNamara and senior Nate Lewis paced the Spartans, notching a second-place and co-third-place finishes in their respective weight classes, leading a pack of eight CWRU wrestlers to win at least two matches on the day.

Competing in the 157-pound bracket, Munn picked up a technical fall victory (16-0) over Gettysburg's Tristan Chen, another technical fall win over Washington & Jefferson's Evan Brown (18-1), a 9-4 decision over Mount Union's Richard Rush and earned a 6-3 decision over Johns Hopkins' Dominick Reyes in the semifinals. His performance contributed a 24.0 points towards the team total.

McNamara picked up two quick victories in the 285-pound bracket after pinning Mt. St. Joseph's Jacob Peters in 4:30 and then pinning W&J's Derek Allen in 2:00. After falling in his third match of the day, McNamara bounced back with back-to-back-to-back victories, defeating Alfred State's Ryan Mattison by pin (4:45), claiming a 7-0 decision over Thomas More's Ahmad Hameidan and adding a 4-3 decision over Gage Gladysz of Thiel. His co-third-place finish provided CWRU with another 19.0 points.

Lewis also earned a co-third-place finish in the 285-pound draw and totaled 17.5 points. Both McNamara and Lewis met the six-match limit by NCAA rules, which meant they could not wrestle another match on the day. As a result, both finished with co-third-place finishes at 285 pounds. After falling in his first match of the day, Lewis surged back to win five straight matches, including a technical fall victory over Wisconsin Eau Claire's Chase McDaniel (20-5), a 7-4 decision over Johns Hopkins' Henri Behaeghel and a 7-4 decision over Wisconsin Eau Claire's Paul Carter.

Two Spartans also claimed a pair of sixth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Jacob Frisch earned two victories in the 133-pound draw, pinning Thiel's Matthew O'Connor (5:30) and claiming a 5-3 decision over Wisconsin Eau Claire's Cody Vogel. Sophomore Isaac Collier added four victories in the 157-pound bracket and totaled 13.0 points. He earned a pin over Mount Union's Kyle Jenkins (2:20), a pin over W&J's Lawrence Schott (1:15), won by forfeit over Thomas More's Jimmy Traub and then claimed a 12-5 decision over Mount Union's Richard Rush.

In the 141-pound draw, sophomore Andrew Hoover claimed three victories and totaled 7.0 points. Sophomore Ben Kring and freshman Thomas Gallagher each picked up two victories in the 149-pound bracket, as Kring contributed 7.0 points and Gallagher 6.0 points to the team total.
