Corey Luce of NYU Named Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

Corey Luce, the Senior Assistant Coach of the New York University wrestling team, was named Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, it was announced on Thursday, March 1, by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

Luce is in his 12th season as Head Coach Bruce Haberli's top assistant coach and received the honor for the third time. He was also named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Metropolitan Conference in 2010 and the East Region in 2015.

"I'm thrilled for Corey," said Haberli. "He's very deserving of this honor. He has helped us build a program with high-character student-athletes that produce on the mat and in the classroom. He's going to be a fantastic head coach one day."

Four of Luce's NYU wrestlers -Matt Noble, Sean Lyons, Evan Drill, and Raymond Jazikoff- are set to continue their season next weekend at the 2018 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cleveland, OH.

"Coach Luce is always there for us, he cares so much about our program and about us as individuals, both on and off the mat," explained Jazikoff, a senior captain. "Even though he has two children at home, he treats all of us as if we are his own."

Last season, Luce helped deliver the program its first-ever individual National Champion as 133-pounder Nathan Pike won the title via a fall with his trusted assistant coach in his corner.

Luce also serves on the NWCA's Ranking Committee and the NCAA National Seeding Committee. He is the only assistant coach ever to be selected to those prestigious committees by his peers.
