Evan Drill and Raymond Jazikoff of the New York University wrestling team both recorded wins in Friday morning's Round of 16 at the 2018 NCAA Division III wrestling championships and will wrestle in the quarterfinal round Friday evening. The two-day event is being held at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in downtown Cleveland, OH.

Drill earned a victory at 149 pounds via a first-period technical fall against second-seeded Jimmy Davis of Loras College. The sophomore dominated Davis en route to an 18-2 victory in just under three minutes. Drill will wrestle seventh-seeded Sean Peacock of SUNY Brockport in the quarterfinals.

Jazikoff punched his ticket to the 157-pound quarterfinals with a 6-2 win against Michael McIntire of the University of Mount Union. The senior captain recorded a takedown in the final seconds of the first period and scored on a reversal in the second period to extend his lead. Jazikoff will wrestle Zach Wilhelm of Stevens Institute of Technology with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

Matt Noble (133 pounds) and Sean Lyons (141 pounds) also represented NYU at the national tournament. Noble was injured in his opening match and fell via an injury default. Lyons dropped his preliminary match against Kevin Kelly of Loras 8-4, but bounced back with a 5-0 victory over Hayden Schlough of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The sophomore will wrestle Charles Nash of Baldwin Wallace University this evening.
