NYU Takes on Two Ranked Opponents

From NYU Athletics

The New York University wrestling team traveled north to Worcester, MA, to take on host Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Roger Williams University in a pair of dual matches on Saturday, February 3.

NYU (11-9) forfeited three weight classes in each match and dropped both bouts, first falling 31-15 to #20 Roger Williams and then dropping a 27-16 decision to #21 WPI.

Against Roger Williams, the grapplers won four of seven contested bouts as Matt Noble (133 pounds), Will Crisco (141 pounds), Evan Drill (149 pounds) and Raymond Jazikoff (157 pounds) won four straight bouts. Noble won his bout via a first-period fall, while his three teammates each won by decision.

In the second match of the day against WPI, NYU was victorious in five of the seven contested bouts. Noble, Crisco, Drill, and Jazikoff each won their second bouts of the day and James Murdoch earned a victory at 165 pounds, as well. Drill's win was a 12-3 major decision, while the other four NYU winners won by decision.

Jazikoff improved to 39-5 this season with his two victories and now boasts 140 career wins. The senior captain needs just one more to tie Michael Oldham ('01) for the most wins in program history.

Drill (26-4), Crisco (12-3) and Noble (20-4) also added to their impressive win-loss records on Saturday. The trio, along with Jazikoff and a larger contingent of NYU grapplers will return to WPI later this month for the NCAA Northeast Regional. The two-day event is set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 24 and 25, and the top three finishers in each weight class earn a berth at the NCAA Division III Championships.
