Maroons Finish 3-0 at Chicago Duals

he University of Chicago wrestling team went a perfect 3-0 as hosts of the six-team Chicago Duals on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons improved to 4-0 on the season in dual meets.

UChicago began the day with a 37-12 triumph over Alma College. The Scots took three of the opening four matches to account for all 12 of their team points. The Maroons owned it from there, sweeping the last six matches. First-year Jason Crary and sophomore Kahlan Lee-Lermer submitted a pair of first-period pins at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Sophomore Matt Shoub shut out his 174-pound opponent by a 9-0 margin. Senior Nick Ferraro received a medical forfeit win early in his match at 184. Heavyweight junior Patrick Mulkerin closed out the dual with an 8-4 decision. Juniors Louis Demarco (133 pounds) and Joseph Scheidt (197 pounds) each received forfeits.

The next match of the day saw UChicago win by a 40-12 score against Marian University – Indianapolis. The hosts captured eight-straight matches from 133 through 197 pounds. A trio of forfeits started things off in their favor. Sophomore Steve Bonsall (157 pounds) dominated his opponent for a 16-0 technical fall. Lee-Lermer's defense proved impenetrable in a 3-0 win at 165. Sophomore Kyle Peisker racked up a bunch of points and ended his 174-pound match with a 21-5 technical fall. Ferraro pinned his man in the first period at 184, and junior Jason Lynch pulled out a narrow 7-6 decision at 197.

The Maroons wrapped up their day versus Harper College, ultimately coming away with a 37-7 victory. After a forfeit at 125 pounds, UChicago increased its lead with a 12-0 major decision at 133 pounds by Demarco. First-year Chaise Hauck edged out a 3-2 decision at 149. Then first-year Will Britain stuck his opponent one minute into the 157-pound match with a pin. The last four matches went easily in UChicago favor. Peisker secured another technical fall, 15-0 at 174. Ferraro put up another first-period pin at 184. Scheidt tallied a 13-2 major decision at 197, and Mulkerin won 12-6 at 285 pounds.
