The University of Chicago wrestling team wrapped up its season at day two of the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional on Saturday with three wrestlers achieving podium status.

The Maroons ended up tied for 10th place with 49.5 points in the 17-team regional hosted by Augsburg College, who won the team title with 147 points.

Five UChicago grapplers were still in contention at the start of the day. First-years Chaise Hauck and Jason Crary were the top placers as each took fifth in their respective weight classes. At 141 pounds, Hauck went 2-1 on the day, winning the fifth-place match 8-5 against Concordia College Moorhead. Crary was 1-2 on the day at 157 pounds as he took his fifth-place match by a 5-1 decision against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

First-year Will Hare joined his teammates with a podium finish. He went 1-2 to finish sixth at heavyweight, including a 6-1 decision over his Augsburg opponent.

Senior Nick Ferraro (174 pounds) and sophomore Kahlan Lee-Lermer (165 pounds) both lost their opening consolation-draw matches of the day.

"This is a strong regional," said Head Coach Leo Kocher. "Coming in, we had six wrestlers ranked top eight for seeds, but we couldn't get any of our guys seeded higher than fifth. For the most part, we wrestled tough against the people we needed to beat in order to get to nationals – but we didn't pull out the wins. Kahlan lost a nail biter 4-3 to the second-place finisher. Nick Ferraro was winning 6-2 against the fourth placer when he damaged his knee badly. The first-years performed great with Will Hare and Chaise Hauck surpassing their seeds and Jason equaling his."
