Case Western Reserve University wrestling Head Coach Danny Song will enter his second year as the Freestyle Director for the USA Wrestling Ohio National Team.

Song, who will be entering his fourth year as the CWRU head coach, was elected to the positon by a majority vote of all Chartered clubs, Officers, Directors, and At-Large Board Members at the Annual Meeting for USA Wrestling.

As the Freestyle Director, Song works to improve freestyle wrestling technique of the USAW-OH coaches and wrestlers. This includes assisting in the training and development of coaches, as well as sponsoring clinics at club and tournament to help promote Freestyle wrestling in Ohio. In addition, Song will develop, in conjunction with the National Teams Director, a freestyle philosophy and training system that will improve freestyle wrestling in Ohio and can be implemented statewide to all coaches and wrestlers.

Song and the Ohio National Team recently finished second at the Cadet / Junior Nationals, which was being held in Fargo, North Dakota. Team Ohio repeated its runner-up finish behind Illinois and crowned champions in Jordan Decatur (132 pounds), Bryce Andonian (145) and Carson Kharchla (170) with Gabe Tagg (138) finishing second.

"We're in a really good spot as a state," Kharchla said. "With other states around us being so strong, we all make each other better. I also think we have some of the best, if not the best, coaches in Ohio helping us. It's really convenient if you want to get extra work. You don't have to travel 20-plus hours to get in good work."

Song and the Spartan wrestling team will now await the start of the 2018-19 season, after finishing the previous year with the most dual match victories since Song took over the program prior to the 2015-16 season.
