The University of Chicago wrestling team won five weight classes in a hot start to the season at University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Super 8 Invitational on Saturday.

First-years Maguire Pecci and Cole Riemer each went 2-0 at 149 pounds and were co-champions. The duo combined for two pins and one technical fall between them. First-year Ben Sarasin and junior Kyle Peisker were also co-champions at 174 pounds with a combined six wins.

Sophomore Will Britain captured the 165-pound title as he scored 45 points in three matches. Junior Steve Bonsall was similarly dominant with a 3-0 mark at 157 pounds, outscoring his opponents 29-4.

Senior Louis DeMarco was also a title winner at 133 pounds, winning 3-1 and 12-10 in his bouts.

Sophomore Will Hare (2-1) placed third and senior Patrick Mulkerin (2-1) took fifth at heavyweight. Sophomore Alec Gleason went 3-1 to capture fifth at 141 pounds, which included two technical falls and a major decision. Senior Joseph Scheidt finished 2-1 at 197 pounds to place fifth.

"It would be hard to say this was anything but a good day," said Head Coach Leo Kocher. "We left some fine athletes at home and we still captured five of 10 weight classes – two in which we had co-champions. Four of our freshmen had the exact experience we wanted for them."
