Washington Captures Ninth UAA Women's Soccer Title

Chicago, Ill., November 7, 2013 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team concluded regular season play with 2-0 win at University of Chicago Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

Washington U., who claimed its ninth University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship and earned the league's automatic bid, finished the regular season with a 17-1 record and a 7-0 mark in the UAA. The 17 wins in the regular season are the most in school history. The school record for wins in a single season is 19, set in 2012.

Chicago, who was ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Central Region rankings, concludes its regular season with an 11-4-3 record, and a third place finish in the UAA with a 3-2-2 mark. The Maroons will await word if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Selection Show will be streamed live on www.ncaa.com on Monday, Nov. 11, at 12:30 p.m. (CT).

Junior Anna Zambricki broke the tie in the 24th minute when she chipped Chicago goalkeeper Jacinda Reid from 20 yards out to make it 1-0. The goal for Zambricki was her seventh of the season, while the game-winning goal was the 13th of her career, third most in school history. Each team had eight shots in the first half.

Washington U. added the much-needed insurance goal in the 61st minute when senior Becky Berels scored off a rebound to make it 2-0. The goal for Berels was her sixth of the season and 10th of her career. Washington U. outshot Chicago, 21-11, for the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amy French improved to 16-1 in the nets my making two saves in the win. The 16 wins for French tie her for ninth most in school history with Amanda Boe (2005-08).

Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series with Chicago, 13-11-2 … The Bears will be making their eighth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 13th in school history … Saturday's game was the fourth-straight road contest for Washington U. … Zambricki moved into sole possession of sixth place on all-time goals list with 31 … The Bears are 8-0 on the road this season, and has won its last 15 games away from home dating back to the 2012 season.
