Sophomore forwards Jennifer Zajic (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson Secondary School) and Mahya Krouse (Buffalo, N.Y./Nardin) each netted a goal as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team opened the 2014 campaign with a 2-0 victory versus Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday evening at DiSanto Field.

CWRU wins its fourth consecutive season opener and improves to 4-0-1 in the last five meetings with the Battling Bishops

The Spartans controlled the pace most of the way, and Zajic broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute with her second career goal. After an initial shot by Krouse, Zajic collected the rebound and guided a shot into the net from point blank range.

Despite several scoring tries, the score remained at 1-0 until the 86th minute when Krouse buried a shot from the left side into the top right corner of the OWU net. The goal was her first as a Spartan.

For the match, the Spartans outshot the visitors 17-1 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In goal, senior Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) didn't need to record a save in her ninth career win. Kenzie Howell took the loss for OWU with seven saves.
