Washington University in St. Louis senior forward Lillie Toaspern was named to the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Women's Soccer Division III All-America Team, as announced by the Association.
Toaspern is the eighth player in school history to earn first-team honors, and just the third player to receive multiple All-America certificates. She picked up third-team honors as a junior in 2013.
In addition, Toaspern and sophomore forward Katie Chandler were named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III All-Central Region first team, while sophomore goalkeeper Lizzy Crist and senior back Tessa Delaney picked up second-team all-Central Region accolades.
"We are honored that the NSCAA would recognize four of the many players that had an outstanding season for the Bears. It takes an entire team and many brilliant performances to get one person honored, let alone four," said head coach Jim Conlon. "It is difficult to become a back-to-back All-American. Lillie, along with the help of her teammates, worked hard to learn a new position and formation to play at am extremely high level."
Toaspern, the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player, led the team in scoring with nine goals and 11 assists for a UAA-best 29 points. She was also second in the conference in assists and third in goal scored. Toaspern recorded a point in 14 of 19 games played, and notched game-winning goals against Principia College (9/23) and the University of Rochester (10/19). She earned UAA Athlete of the Week and Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division III National Player of the Week honors Sept. 23.
A four-time all-UAA and all-Central Region honoree, Toaspern started 79 of 81 games played in her career and ranks third in Washington U. school history in points (113), fourth in assists (31), fifth in goals scored (41) and sixth in game-winning goals (11).
Chandler tied for the team lead and finished third in the UAA in scoring with nine goals. A second-team all-UAA honoree, she recorded a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Benedictine University (Ill.) Sept. 7, and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over then-No. 11 University of Chicago Nov. 8. Chandler has scored 17 goals in 41 career games.
Crist posted a 10-4-2 record with a 0.51 goals against average and was tied for fourth in the UAA with seven shutouts. The 0.51 GAA ranks third on the Washington U. single-season list. Crist also ranked 17th in NCAA Division III in goals against average and 64th in save percentage (0.843). She made a career-high eight saves in a 1-1 tie against then-No. 5 Emory University Oct. 6, and was a three-time UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honoree.
Delaney, a second-team all-UAA selection, started all 19 games on defense for the Bears. She anchored the back line that recorded 13 shutouts and allowed 10 goals. As a team, Washington University's goals against average of 0.51 ranked third in the UAA and 16th in NCAA Division III. Delaney started 43 of 65 career games played, and scored her first career goal in a 5-0 win over Principia College Sept. 23.
Toaspern will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held Saturday, Jan. 17, in conjunction with the 2015 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia.
