Brenton Desai and Mia Calamari of Chicago Honored as NSCAA Scholar All-Americans

University of Chicago soccer players Brenton Desai and Mia Calamari were both selected as Second Team Scholar All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Friday.

Desai, an economics major, wrapped up his senior campaign with First Team All-Region honors from the NSCAA and First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) accolades. The forward scored nine goals and dished out four assists, ranking second on the team with 22 points in 17 starts. At the conclusion of his four-year career, Desai ranks fourth in school history in goals (33) and fifth in points (76).

Calamari, who is double majoring in public policy and statistics, finished the 2016 season with NSCAA Third Team All-American status. She was also a NSCAA First Team All-Region and Second Team All-UAA pick. The junior midfielder was second on the team with eight goals to go with her team-high 12 assists for a total of 28 points in 23 starts. Calamari is the program's all-time leader in career assists with 40, while also ranking 10th in career points with 60.

NSCAA Scholar All-Americans must meet the following criteria:

  • 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Start more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current NSCAA College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school
