Washington University in St. Louis senior goalkeeper Lizzy Crist and senior back Hannah Rosenberg were named to the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's Division III Scholar All-America Team, as announced by the Association.
Crist was named the 2016 NSCAA Scholar Player of the Year and also picked up first-team honors, while Rosenberg was named to the third team. The duo was also named to the NSCAA Scholar First-Team All-North/Central Region.
Crist, a first-team National Soccer Coaches Soccer Association (NSCAA) First-Team All-America selection, started 23 games and recorded a 19-1-2 mark with a single-season school record 0.29 goals against average. She also set the single-season school record with 13 shutouts, and tied the win total. Crist led the University Athletic Association (UAA) and ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in goals against average (0.286) and fifth in goals allowed (6).
She was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Defensive Player for the second-consecutive season after posting a 2-0 mark with a 0.90 goals against average at the Final Four. Crist concluded her career as the school's all-time leader in shutouts (31) and was second in wins (48).
A three-time Academic all-UAA honoree, Crist was a 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First-Team Academic All-America and All-District Selection. She has a 3.87 grade point average while majoring in biomedical engineering.
"Lizzy works hard on and off the field to make herself and her teammates better academically and athletically. She is very deserving of this prestigious honor," said head coach Jim Conlon.
Rosenberg, a second-team all-NSCAA All-Central Region selection, started all 24 games this season on defense. She had three goals and four assists for 10 points. Rosenberg had a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Knox College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 12.
She was part of the back line that posted a WashU single-season school school in shutouts (18), and also tied a school record for fewest goals allowed (8). As a team, WashU seventh in goals against average (0.32), eighth in shutout percentage (0.750) and ninth in goals allowed (8).
A two-time Academic all-UAA and 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Rosenberg has a 3.82 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.
"Hannah is the hardest working student I have ever coached. Her dedication to learning is unprecedented," said Conlon. "Hannah studies, works out and plays soccer. She is the perfect example of a scholar-champion."
To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
WashU won the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship after posting a 5-4 shootout victory over Messiah College Dec. 3 in Salem, Va. The Bears recorded a 19-2-3 overall record, the second most wins in school history, and won the UAA championship for the fourth time in the last five years.
