Jenna McKinney Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year, Chicago Soccer Pulls in Multiple Awards

The United Soccer Coaches (USC) selected University of Chicago junior midfielder Jenna McKinney as the 2017 USC Women's Scholar Player of the Year for Division III on Friday. Additionally, three Maroon soccer players were named to the Scholar All-America Teams and four were picked to the Scholar All-Region Teams.

Scholar All-America recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school

An economics major, McKinney led the Maroons in scoring with 15 goals and six assists. McKinney was a USC First Team Scholar All-American this year, and was previously named Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Dec. 5.

Senior midfielder Mia Calamari was also a First Team Scholar All-American and First Team Scholar All-North/Central Region. It marked the second-straight year that Calamari, a public policy major, has received Scholar All-America status. She concluded the year with six goals and 18 assists.

UChicago's men were represented on the All-North/Central Region Teams by senior defender Stacey Reimann and senior midfielder Andre Abedian. Reimann, a philosophy and law, letters & society double major, achieved Second Team Scholar All-American and First Team Scholar All-Region status while starting 19 out of 21 games this season. Abedian, an economics major, was Third Team Scholar All-Region. He compiled five goals and four assists on the year.
