Washington University in St. Louis junior midfielder Darcy Cunningham and junior back Maggie Crist were named to the 2017 D3Soccer.com All-America Team, as announced Wednesday by the website.
Cunningham was a second-team honoree, while Crist picked up third-team accolades. Crist was a repeat selection after earning second-team honors in 2016. The Bears have had eight student-athletes earn 11 D3Soccer.com All-America distinctions since the team originated in 2010.
Cunningham, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) and all-Central Central Region selection, started 18 of 19 games played in the midfield. She was third on the team with four goals and 11 assists for 16 points. Cunningham ranked second in the UAA and seventh on the WashU single-season list with 11 assists.
She netted game-winning goals against Fontbonne and Brandeis, and also had the tying goal against No. 1 Chicago. She was named the National Player of the Week and UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week on Nov. 7.
Crist, a first-team all-Central Region and second-team all-UAA selection, started 16 of 18 games played for the Bears. She was fifth on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points. She scored the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over No. 10-ranked Pomona-Pitzer.
Crist was also a main part of the WashU defense that posted 14 shutouts and allowed just eight goals. WashU's goals against average (0.396) and shutout percentage (0.700) ranked 12th in Division III.
WashU finished the 2017 season with a 17-2-1 record, and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the sixth time in the last seven season and for the 13th time in school history. The Bears were also the 2017 UAA co-champion.
