NYU Remains Unbeaten in UAA Play With Win Over Rochester

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's soccer team defeated the University of Rochester 2-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, October 14, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

With the victory, NYU improved to 7-4-1 on the season and remained unbeaten through four UAA games (3-0-1), while the visiting Yellowjackets dropped to 8-6-0 overall and are 0-4-0 in UAA play.

Maddie Peña opened the scoring for the Violets in the seventh minute when she controlled a loose ball in the box and sent it past Rochester goalkeeper Samantha Hlavac.

The Violets doubled their lead to 2-0 later in the first half when leading goal scorer Isabelle Turner took a pass from Julia Raith and headed it into the back of the net. The goal was Turner's seventh of the season.

Rochester made things interesting with just under four minutes on the clock as Carolyn Richards took a loose ball in the box and knocked it past NYU goalkeeper Meghan Marhan.

Marhan and the Violets were able to compose themselves, however, and hold on for the win which extended their unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2). The sophomore goalkeeper made four saves in the victory, while Hlavac made a pair for Rochester.
