Chicago Cruises to 6-1 Victory at CWRU

The No. 13 University of Chicago women's soccer team scored early and often as the Maroons cruised to their fifth-straight win in Sunday's 6-1 road victory at Case Western Reserve.

UChicago (12-1-1, 4-0) stayed perfect in University Athletic Association play with the win that saw junior Hanna Watkins score two goals.

The Maroons led 3-0 at the break, the first score from junior Rachel Dias in just the 7' of play. Dias headed in a cross from the right side of the box from sophomore teammate Katie Jasminski for her fourth goal of the season.

Dias was involved in the next scoring play, finding Watkins on a corner kick, which the midfielder finished with a header in the 15' to make it 2-0, Maroons. Jasminski and Dias teamed up on the next score, with Dias connecting on her second-straight assist on a cross from the left side find the sophomore forward for her first goal of the season in the 17'.

Thirteen minutes in the second half saw Watkins net her second header goal of the day, benefiting from a cross from rookie Nicole Kaspi. Thirty-one seconds later, sophomore Maddie DeVoe joined the offensive action with an unassisted strike that made it 5-0, Maroons.

Junior Adrianna Vera added UChicago's last score, an assisted goal from teammate Nicole Willing, in the 65'. The Spartans (6-7, 0-4) finally got on the board with less than five minutes to play, when Jennifer Markle scored on a corner kick in the 86' to create the final score.

UChicago dominated the team totals, out-shooting Case Western 39-4 and beat the Spartans on corner kicks, 8-4.

Starting keeper Katie Donovan was credited with the win and second-half keeper Miranda Malone collected one save in her 45 minutes for the Maroons.
