Nineteen UAA women's soccer student-athletes were named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III all-region teams with nine receiving first-team accolades.
First Team
Shivani Beall, Emory University: Beall makes her first appearance on the All-Region and becomes the first Eagle to be named to the All-Region First Team since Lauren Gorodetsky in 2013. Beall put forth a career-year as a junior, leading the Eagles with nine goals and 22 points while setting a single-season school record with 44 shots on goal and leading the UAA with 79 shots, the third most in team history. In games where she recorded at least one point, the Eagles went 8-0 and recorded her first career hat trick against Covenant College on October 17th, finishing with a career-high six points. She was previously honored this postseason with her second All-University Athletic Association First Team selection and garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.
Madeline Peña, NYU: Peña, who was named First Team All-UAA earlier this postseason, led the Association in assists with 10, which also set the NYU record for a single season. Additionally, she ranked second on the team with six goals and led the Violets in points with 24. The senior's biggest goal of the season came less than five minutes into a 1-0 victory at then-10th ranked University of Chicago, helping lead NYU to its first victory over the Maroons in 16 seasons.
Jenna McKinney, University of Chicago: McKinney was a First Team All-Region midfielder for the third-straight year. It marked her fourth overall appearance on the All-Region squad. The senior paced the Maroons in scoring with 10 goals and two assists, including four game-winners. In the school's career rankings, she is second in goals (43), second in points (107) and seventh in assists (21).
Mackenzie Peebles, University of Chicago: Peebles became a two-time First Team defender selection. The junior posted three goals and one assist while serving as anchor of the back line. UChicago shut out six opponents on the season with a 0.99 goals against average. The Maroons outshot opponents 410-153 in total.
Taylor Cohen, Washington University: Cohen, a two-time first-team all-Central Region honoree, leads the conference with 15 goals and nine assists for 39 points. She is also first in the UAA and 11th in NCAA Division III with seven game-winning goals. A first-team all-UAA honoree, Cohen has four goals and two assists in NCAA Tournament play. She scored game-winners against Westminster (1stRound), Illinois Wesleyan (2ndRound) and No. 23 Wisconsin-La Crosse (Sectional Semifinal).
Maggie Crist, Washington University: Crist, a three-time all-Central Region Selection, has started all 21 games at holding center mid for the Bears. She has six goals and six assists for 18 points, and scored game-winners in a 1-0 win at Rochester Oct. 7 and a 2-0 victory over Chicago Nov. 3. A first-team all-University Athletic (UAA) Association selection and the conference MVP, Crist has also been part of the back line that has recorded 16 shutouts and allowed five goals in 21 games played. As a team, WashU ranks second in NCAA Division III in goals against average (0.24) and sixth in shutout percentage (0.762).
Darcy Cunnigham, Washington University: Cunningham, a two-time first-team all-Central Region selection, has started 14 of 17 games played and has seven goals and seven assists for 21 points. She netted three game-winning goals in regular-season play, including in a 3-0 win at No. 22 Loras (Aug. 31) and in a 2-1 overtime victory vs. Emory Sept. 29. Cunningham is third in the UAA in shots (68), fourth in assists, fifth in points and seventh in goals.
Emma Greenfield, Washington University: Greenfield, a second-team all-UAA honoree, has a 21-0 record with a 0.25 goals against average with 13 shutouts. She ranks first in the conference and fifth in NCAA Division III in goals against average. Greenfield also leads the league in fewest goals allowed (5). Greenfield has made 18 saves in 1805:52 minutes played, including a season-high three stops in a 4-1 win vs. Rhodes Sept. 15.
Hannah Menard, Washington University: Menard has started all 21 games on defense and has two goals and three assists for seven points. She scored game-winners in the 5-0 victory over Franklin Sept. 8 and in a 4-1 win over Rhodes Sept. 15. Menard also had the game-winning assist in a 2-0 win over No. 20 Chicago Nov. 3. She was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 29 and Nov. 12, and is part of the back line that has recorded 16 shutouts and allowed five goals.
Second Team
Daria Bakhtiari, Brandeis University: Bakhtiari earned her first career All-Region honor. She was the team's second-leading scorer this season with five goals and 11 points, including two goals and an assist in University Athletic Association play. Bakhtiari netted the game-winner in the 52nd minute of a conference win over Carnegie Mellon Oct. 6, while also scoring the winning goal on an overtime penalty kick against Tufts University on Sept. 22 in a battle of unbeaten teams at the time. She scored a goal in a 2-1 UAA loss to Emory on Oct. 14, and assisted the game-winning goal in a 4-0 league win over Rochester on Oct. 12.
Rachel O'Keefe, NYU: O'Keefe, a freshman, was one of only two Violets to start all 19 games this season. The First Team All-UAA honoree led a defense that allowed 16 goals in 19 games and posted shutouts in nearly half of its games (nine).
Isabelle Turner, NYU: Turner led NYU in goals, finding the back of the net eight times to go along with one assist for 17 points. The junior recorded a pair of multi-goal games, tallying twice in a 4-0 victory at Centenary University and scoring the game's only goals in a 2-0 UAA win at Case Western Reserve University.
Shayna Levy, University of Rochester: Levy capped her career with an exceptional season in 2018, playing every minute this year, all 1,640 of them across Rochester's 18 games. The senior finished with one goal on the year, coming on a penalty kick against Alfred on September 22nd, a goal which proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph. She also was a key contributor on defense, helping Rochester hold 12 opponents to a goal or less, including five shutouts.
Third Team
Sasha Sunday, Brandeis University: Sunday was a first-team All-Association forward as a junior, when she led the Judges with nine goals and nine assists. This season, Sunday finished with four goals and two assists on the season to finish third on the team in scoring. Sunday netted the team's first and last goals of the regular season. She scored the opening goal in a 3-2 overtime win over MIT on Sept. 1, as well as the team's only goal in a 2-1 defeat at NYU on Nov. 3. She also scored in UAA play against the University of Rochester on Oct. 12. Sunday finished with 17 goals and 11 assists in her career.
Emily Thiem, Brandeis University: Thiem was an outside back for the Judges who started all 17 games this season and 32 contests over the past two years. She helped the Brandeis defense finish second in the UAA in goals allowed overall (11) and in conference games (5). The Judges finished the regular season ranked 49th out of 432 teams in Division III in goals-against average (0.68) and 64th in shutout percentage (0.50, eight shutouts in 16 game).
Samantha Hilsee, Emory University: Hilsee also makes her first career appearance among the All-Region honorees, as she was selected to the Third Team. As a sophomore, Hilsee was one of four field players to start all 20 contests, setting a career-high with 15 points and tying her personal-best output of six goals. She joined Beall on the All-UAA First Team earlier this postseason and on September 24th, she was named the UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time after posting three goals and one assist against USA South foes Piedmont and Huntingdon including a career-high five points against the Hawks on September 23rd.
Hanna Watkins, University of Chicago: Watkins secured Third Team status as a midfielder. The junior was second on the team in scoring with nine goals (four game-winners) and three assists. She is currently 10th in UChicago history with 23 career goals.
Carolyn Richards: University of Rochester: Richards ended 2018 with four goals and three assists, tying for the team lead in both categories, equaling 11 points. She added 39 shots, 18 of which were on goal and had three game-winners. She appeared in 17 total games, making nine starts. The first-year ranked among the conference leaders in game-winning goals, assists and scoring.
Emma Schecter: University of Rochester: Schechter was a starter in goal 15 times in UR's 18 games, making a total of 16 appearances. She compiled a 1.00 goals against average and made 60 saves, accumulating a .789 save percentage. Her record was 9-6-1 on the season and had five shutouts. The first-year keeper made a season-high nine saves twice, coming once against #1 Washington St.-Louis and once against Ithaca in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
