Washington University in St. Louis sophomore back Katy Mockett was named to the 2018 Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Mockett was the lone sophomore named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team.
Mockett is the eighth individual in the 30-year history of the WashU women's soccer program to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Brenda Harpole (2003), Christine Vavra (2003), Charlotte Felber (2004), Meghan Marie Fowler-Finn (2006), Amanda Boe (2008), Kate Doyle (2012, 2013) and Lizzy Crist (2016).
"To be named a Google Cloud Academic All-American is an extremely prestigious honor," said WashU head coach Jim Conlon. "Katy embodies the WashU Scholar-Champion experience. The character that drives her in the classroom and on the field, is truthfully what makes her a joy to coach."
Mockett started 20 of 21 games played on the back line this season for the Bears and had an assist She was part of the defense that set a single-season school record with six goals allowed in 22 games played, and also tied the team mark with 16 shutouts.
As a team, WashU ranked third in NCAA Division III in goals against average (0.272) and 11thin shutout percentage (0.727).
A 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District and Academic All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, Mockett has a 4.0 GPA while majoring in systems engineering.
To be eligible for nomination to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and must be a starter or an important reserve.
WashU finished the 2018 season with a school-record 21-1 mark, and advanced to the Final Four for the fifth time in school history. The Bears also won their fourth-straight UAA title.
