Washington University in St. Louis had a school-record four students-athletes named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Association Women's Soccer All-America Team, as announced by the Association Thursday at the 2018 NCAA Championship Banquet in Greensboro, N.C.
Senior Maggie Crist, senior midfielder Darcy Cunningham and senior back Hannah Menard was named to the first team, while junior forward Taylor Cohen earned second-team honors.
Crist earns All-America honors for the third-straight year after picking up first-team honors in 2016 and second-team accolades in 2017. She is the first player in school history to earn multiple All-America honors. Cunningham was also a repeat selection to the first team.
MAGGIE CRIST
Crist, a three-time all-Central Region and all-UAA Selection, has started all 21 games at holding center mid for the Bears. She has six goals and six assists for 18 points, and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Rochester Oct. 7 and a 2-0 victory over Chicago Nov. 3.
The 2018 University Athletic (UAA) Association MVP, Crist has also been part of the back line that has recorded 16 shutouts and allowed five goals in 21 games played. As a team, WashU ranks second in NCAA Division III in goals against average (0.24) and sixth in shutout percentage (0.762). Crist has 10 career goals and eight assists for 28 points, and has been a part of 64 shutouts in his career.
DARCY CUNNINGHAM
Cunningham, a two-time first-team all-Central Region and all-UAA selection, has started 14 of 17 games played and has seven goals and seven assists for 21 points. She netted three game-winning goals in regular-season play, including in a 3-0 win at No. 22 Loras (Aug. 31) and in a 2-1 overtime victory vs. Emory Sept. 29.
Cunningham is third in the UAA in shots (68), fourth in assists, fifth in points and seventh in goals. She has 20 career goals and 24 assists for 64 points, and ranks sixth in school history in assists.
HANNAH MENARD
Menard, a first-team all-Central Region and second-team all-UAA honoree, has started all 21 games on defense and has two goals and three assists for seven points. She scored game-winners in the 5-0 victory over Franklin Sept. 8 and in a 4-1 win over Rhodes Sept. 15. Menard also had the game-winning assist in a 2-0 win over No. 20 Chicago Nov. 3.
She was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 29 and Nov. 12, and is part of the back line that has recorded 16 shutouts and allowed five goals. Menard has four career goals and five assists for 13 points, and has been a part of 30 shutouts the past two seasons.
TAYLOR COHEN
Cohen, a two-time first-team all-Central Region and all-UAA honoree, leads the conference with 15 goals and nine assists for 39 points. She is also first in the UAA and 11th in NCAA Division III with seven game-winning goals.
Cohen has four goals and two assists in NCAA Tournament play. She scored game-winners against Westminster (1st Round), Illinois Wesleyan (2nd Round) and No. 23 Wisconsin-La Crosse (Sectional Semifinal). She has 37 career goals and 20 assists for 94 points. Cohen ranks fifth in school history in game-winning goal, sixth in points and seventh in goals.
No. 1-ranked WashU has a 21-0 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four for the third time in the last four seasons and fifth in school history. The Bears take on No. 3 Middlebury College in the National Semifinals at 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday in Greensboro.
All four student-athletes will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Jan. 12, 2019 at McCormick Place West Building in conjunction with the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.
