The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team picked up its 13thwin to secure its best start in school history with a 4-1 victory at No. 21 Carnegie Mellon University Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Junior Taylor Cohen, a Pittsburgh native, scored a pair of second half goals to move into a tie for the conference lead with nine goals. She also moved into ninth place in school history with 31 career goals scored.

WashU improved to 13-0 and 4-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Carnegie Mellon lost its third-straight contest and fell to 7-5-1 and 0-4 in the UAA. WashU and Chicago remain in a tie for first place in the UAA standings with three games remaining.

A give-and-go by Cohen and senior Darcy Cunningham in the box resulted in an own goal just 35 seconds in the contest to put WashU up 1-0.

Each team recorded two shots in the first half. Carnegie Mellon did not have a shot on goal or a corner kick in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bears put together some nice sequences early in the second half, and finally capitalized after freshman Ariana Miles hit the post and then Cohen cleaned up the rebound to make it 2-0 in the 50thminute.

Senior Maggie Crist scored off a header after a scramble in the box in the 71stminute, and then Cohen netted her second goal of the contest in the 79thminute after receiving a service from Cunningham and beating the keeper with volley over her head.

WashU outshot Carnegie Mellon 10-9 and the Bears had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Emma Greenfield (13-0) recorded two saves and picked up the win in goal.
