Fresh off an 8-0 start to the 2018 season, the Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team has moved to No. 1 in the United Soccer CoachesTop-25 Poll, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
WashU is one of seven undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division III joining Brandeis, Centre, Christopher Newport, Greensboro, Middlebury and Texas-Dallas.
Head coach Jim Conlon has guided the Bears to an 8-0 start for the first time since 2014, and for the fourth time in school history. Conlon is 177-35-16 (.822) in 11 seasons at WashU, including a 64-7-5 (.875) record the last four seasons.
WashU has outscored its opponents 28-1 this season, allowing just five shots on goal. The Bears have posted seven shutouts, and have not allowed a shot on goal in six of eight games played.
WashU ranks first in NCAA Division III in assists (31), second in goals against average (0.125) and shutout percentage (0.875), fourth in assists per game (3.88) and shots per game (27.5) and 10thin points (87).
Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Greenfield ranks second in D3 in goals against average (0.129) and junior forward Taylor Cohen is 25thin assists (5). Senior midfielder Darcy Cunningham leads the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points, while Cohen is second with four goals and five assists for 13 points.
