Washington University in St. Louis sophomore back Gabbie Cesarone and senior forward Taylor Cohen were named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-America First Team, as announced Thursday at the 2019 NCAA Championship Banquet in Greensboro, N.C.

Cesarone earned the honor for the first time in her career, while Cohen picked up the accolade for the second time after picking up second-team honors a year ago. Cohen is the seventh player in school history to earn multiple All-America accolades.

GABBIE CESARONE
Cesarone started 20 of 21 games at center back and had four goals and one assist for nine points. She anchored a defense that recorded 13 shutouts and allowed nine goals in 22 games. As a team, WashU ranked ninth in NCAA Division III in goals against average (0.405) and 33rd in shutout percentage (0.591).

Cesarone was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Player of the Year and also a First-Team Central-Region and all-UAA selection. She was a three-time UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honoree, and scored game-winners at Calvin (8/30) and vs. Adrian (11/17) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"Gabbie is an exceptionally talented player. For her to play with such poise as a young player is truly remarkable," said WashU head coach Jim Conlon. "She is respected by her teammates and coaches in part because of her calming presence and friendship."

TAYLOR COHEN
Cohen, a three-time first-team all-Central Region and all-UAA honoree, led the team with 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points. She was also tops on the squad with five game-winning goals.

Cohen was a three-time UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week selection, and was named the National Player of the Week on Oct. 8. She finished her career tied for first in school history in game-winning goals (18), third in goals scored (48) and points (124) and sixth in assists (28).

"Taylor is a true scholar-champion. She has been able to balance academic endeavors globally while playing at an equally high level," said Conlon. "Her joy for life makes her an incredible soccer player and a great teammate."

WashU finished the 2019 season with an 18-1-3 record, and advanced to the Elite 8 for the 11th time in school history. The Bears also won their fifth-straight UAA title.

Cesarone and Cohen will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Jan. 18, 2020 at the 2020 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore.
