NYU Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes First at ECAC Championships

New York University's women's swimming & diving team won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, which were held Friday-Sunday, December 6-8, at Lehman College in the Bronx, NY.

Freshman Sela Wang won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.32. Wang also participated on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:34.05) along with fellow rookies Akemi Aiello and Katie Webber, as well as junior Emily Doerner. 


HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman diver Ashlie Pankonin was named ECAC Women's Diver of the Meet.

- The 400-yard individual medley relay team consisting of Aiello, Doerner, Webber, and sophomore Krista Traub placed second (3:56.30).

- Freshman MIchelle Kierencew placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.49).

- In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Joanna Kostin placed fourth (5:08.49) and fellow rookie Allegra Ingerson followed in fifth place (5:09.61).

"Our team did a great job against some really tough competition," said Head Coach and ECAC Coach of the Meet Trevor Miele. "I am very proud of our results this weekend."

The Violets' next meet will be at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY, on Friday, January 17, at 4:00 pm.
