On Saturday, January 18, New York University's women's swimming & diving team defeated Springfield College (164-136) at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan. The women's team now has a record of 5-2 in dual meets this season.
Freshman Lindsey Giostra was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.89 and placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.44). She also participated on the third-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:52.41) along with freshmen Akemi Aiello, Michelle Kierencew and Sydney Pereira. Kierencew was also victorious in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.04.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman diver Ashlie Pankonin won the one-meter with a score of 294.07 and placed second in the three-meter (255.16).
"Today was really important for all of the divers," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "This was our first look at top-flight national level competition. Everybody really rose to the occasion."
- Junior Emily Doerner, sophomore Krista Traub, freshman Katie Webber, and freshman Elise Gibbs participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:51.08).
- Freshman Joanna Kostin won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:39.33).
"I was really impressed with our swimming today," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We were up against some good competition, and the women did a great job of coming back."
At the meet, NYU also honored its graduating seniors: Gabby Borutecene, Theresa McCartney and Nina Rusiewski.
