Carnegie Mellon Relay Earns All-America Honors at First Day of NCAA Championships

Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving has five participants at 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships taking place March 19-22. The 200-yard medley relay started the meet with an Honorable Mention All-America performance taking 15th place.

Tartan individuals also competed in the 500-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomores Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley), with freshman Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and senior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) took to the pool for the 200-yard medley relay.  The group completed the preliminaries with a new school record time of 1:45.50 placing 14th to advance to the finals.

In the finals, the 200-yard medley relay team finished 15th in a time of 1:45:68 to become just the second relay in school history to earn All-America honors.

Phan and senior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), both on their second trip to the NCAA Championships meet, competed in the 500-yard freestyle.  Phan finished the race with a time of 5:02.76 and Garvey tapped the wall stopping the clock at 5:06.36 for the Tartans.

Freshman Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) raced in the prelims of the 50-yard freestyle, completing the race with a time of 24.84 seconds.
