Junior Emily Doerner of the New York
University women's swimming and diving team earned Division III
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team
Academic All-District 3 honors, it was announced on Thursday, May
15. With the distinction, Doerner automatically moves on to
the ballot for consideration for CoSIDA National Academic
All-America Team honors.
Being named to the District 3 First Team is just the latest in a
long list of academic accolades for Doerner this season. The junior
co-captain was recently named the NYU Junior Female Scholar
Athlete of the Year. In addition, she is a two-time University
Athletic Association (UAA) Winter Sport All-Academic honoree and a
three-time NYU Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee (IAAC)
Honor Roll member. Doerner also earned College Swimming Coaches
Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Honorable
Mention accolades as a sophomore.
In the pool, Doerner earned All-America honors with her
program-record-breaking 100 butterfly performance (eighth place) at
the 2014 Division III NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. She
also earned Honorable Mention All-America honors as part of the
Violets' 200-yard medley relay team. Overall, the St. Louis, MO,
native qualified for six events at the NCAA Championships.
During the season, Doerner swam the fastest time of any NYU women's
swimmer in four different events. In addition, she now
holds two individual and four relay team records, as well as a
Palladium Athletic Facility record, which were all set this past
season.
