Tartans Strong in Dual Win at Case Western Reserve

The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team started the season with an 183-115 dual meet win at Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans won 10 events during the meet.

The Tartans began the meet with a two-second win in the 200-yard medley relay as freshman Anna Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon), freshman Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn), sophomore Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and freshman Tiana Marrese (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) touched in 1:50.19.

Freshman Miranda Ford (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:59.09 with sophomore Kimberly Klausing (North Potomac, Md./Thomas Wootton) touching second in 11:10.49.

Freshman Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.14 before Wong won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.97 ahead of junior teammate Kira Singhaus(Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) in 1:02.77.

Hochstedler touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.17 while freshman Mary St John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) was second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.64.

The Tartans finished 2-3-4 in the 50-yard freestyle with Marrese finishing in 25:55, sophomore Amanda Kuhn (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) in 25.86 and Crews in 25.87.

Marrese returned to the pool for the 100-yard freestyle and won in a time of 55.55 ahead of sophomore teammate Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) in 56.14.

Shi led a sweep of the 200-yard backstroke winning in 2:12.10 with freshman Brinda Malhotra (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) touching second in 2:13.46 and sophomore Paige Sieffert (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) third in 2:14.24.

Sophomore Natalie Kronfli (Potomac, Md./Stone Ridge) was second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.18 before Ford won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.37.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Crews finished second in 59.99 while Wong was third in 1:00.22 and Malhotra fourth in 1:02.28.

Sophomore diver Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) won the 1-meter event with 263.65 points with senior Winona Li (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) taking second with 217.45 points. The two swapped places on the the 3-meter board with Li winning with 241.51 points and Kaku taking second with 237.70 points.

To close the meet, St. John won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:44.74.
