Total Performance Invitational Concludes with Tartans in Fifth Place

The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday, December 6. The Tartans finished fifth out of seven teams and ahead of DePauw University and Grove City College.

Sophomore Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) totaled 432.35 points on the three-meter board to finish second and ahead of senior teammate Andie Azofeifa (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) with 399.82 points. Sophomore Tammy Luk (Little Neck, N.Y./Townsend Harris) tallied 365.00 points and finished fifth.

The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Anna Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon), junior Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley), sophomore Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton), and freshman Tiana Marrese (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) finished eighth in 1:46.87, while sophomore Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga), Marrese, freshman Emma Shi(Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), and Crews finished eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:34.44.

Freshman Miranda Ford (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and sophomore Kimberly Klausing (North Potomac, Md./Thomas Wootton) swam the 500-yard freestyle C-final and finished third and sixth in 5:14.50 and 5:19.73. Both were season-best times.

Junior Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) touched seventh overall in the 200-yard backstroke with a season and team-best time of 2:05.14, while Shi was 13th overall in a season-best 2:06.50.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Crews finished eighth overall in a season-best 56.80, as freshman Kimberly Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.17.

Marrese had the top 100-yard freestyle finish for the Tartans as she touched in 53.41 to place 22nd overall. Kirkby was just behind her in 53.67.

Shi closed out her individual meet with a 14th-place finish in the 200-yard IM, knocking nearly two seconds off her season top time with a season-best time of 2:09.83.
