The Emory University Swimming and Diving women's team picked up a victory on Saturday afternoon at the Woodruff Physical Education Center, earning a 178-79 win over Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) and a 184-66 victory over Brenau University.
The Emory women remained undefeated on the season with the two
victories, improving to 4-0 overall, while the Emory men raised
their record to 2-1 on the campaign with the win over SCAD.
The SCAD men dropped to 0-2 on the year, while the SCAD women, who
also beat Brenau 136.5-124.5, now stand at 2-1. Brenau, which
only fields a women's team, is 0-3 for the season after the pair of
losses on Saturday.
Emory's women claimed first-place finishes in 13 of the 14 events,
while the men won eight of their 14 events on Saturday.
The Eagles swam to first-place finishes in all four of the relay
events at the meet. For the women, the combination of
sophomores Claire Liu, Annelise Kowalsky, Kristine
Rosenberger and senior Nancy Larson won the 200-yard
medley relay with a time of 1:47.12, while Liu,
sophomore Marissa Bergh, freshman Julia Wawer and
Larson won the 400-yard freestyle with a mark of 3:33.20.
Emory women's swimmers totaled five NCAA 'B' cut performances at
the meet, including event-winning efforts from Kowalsky in the
100-yard breaststroke (1:05.24) and 200-yard individual medley
(2:06.95), Liu in the 100-yard backstroke (56.94 seconds), and
junior Ellie Thompson in the 200-yard backstroke
(2:04.64). Freshman Ming Ong added a second-place
finish in the 200-yard individual medley in a 'B' cut time of
2:07.39.
Sophomore Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe swept the butterfly
events with wins in both the 100-yard butterfly (58.87 seconds) and
the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.26). Other event winners for the
Emory women included senior Megan Beach in the 200-yard
breaststroke (2:26.65), senior McKenna
Newsum-Schoenberg in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:25.01),
freshman Cindy Cheng in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.28),
Bergh in the 50-yard freestyle (24.35 seconds) and Larson in the
100-yard freestyle (52.85 seconds).
