From Emory University Athletics
Emory University turned in another solid performance in dual
meet action on Saturday, as the Eagles swept opponents Darton
College and the University of West Florida in the team's final home
dual meet of the 2014-15 season.
The Eagles earned victories of 130.5-103.5 over West Florida
(ranked 14th in Division II) and 154-34 over
Darton.
Saturday also marked the final career home dual meet for Emory's 7
graduating team members - Megan Beach, Dana
Holt, Nancy Larson, McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg, Lexi
Tutor, Michelle York and Nina Zook. They were
honored in a special 'Senior Day' ceremony prior to the start of
the meet.
Together, Emory's senior class has contributed to the program's
success over the past four years, winning three consecutive
University Athletic Association and NCAA Division III
Championships.
Larson claimed a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle
with a time of 52.53 seconds, while Newsum-Schoenberg won the
500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.01. Larson was also a part of
a pair of winning relays, joining freshmen Cindy Cheng,
junior Elizabeth Aronoff, and sophomore Kristine
Rosenberger on the winning 200-yard medley relay team
(1:47.67) and sophomore Claire Liu, sophomore Marissa
Bergh and freshman Ming Ong on the first-place
200-yard freestyle relay team (1:37.09).
First-place finishes in addition to those recorded by seniors came
from freshman Rebecca Upton in the 1,000-yard freestyle
(10:27.34), Cheng in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.34), Liu in the
50-yard freestyle (24.17 seconds), freshman Megan
Campbell in the 100-yard butterfly (58.34 seconds),
junior Ellie Thompson in the 100-yard backstroke (58.53
seconds), and sophomore Annelise Kowalsky in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:05.84).
In addition, junior diver Kellen Hope turned in a pair of
strong performances, surpassing NCAA qualifying standards in each
of the events she competed in at the meet. Hope won the
one-meter dive with a score of 264.90, and placed second in the
three-meter dive with a mark of 268.35.
With the wins, Emory raised its dual meet record to
7-0.
