Six Violets Earn Honors on Third Day of NCAA Championships; NYU in Eighth Place

From NYU Athletics

Two New York University's women's swimming & diving team members competed in events during the final heats of the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships. The meet is being held from Wednesday-Saturday, March 18-21, at the Conroe CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX.

The Violets are currently in eighth place of 45 teams with 102 points. Emory University is in the lead with 456.5 points.

Elise Gibbs finished the 100-yard breaststroke finals in eighth place overall with a NYU record-breaking time of 1:03.58, besting the record of 1:03.64 that she set during preliminaries this morning. Because of the sophomore's performance during the finals, she received All-America honors and earned 11 of the Violets' 102 points.

"It was pretty incredible to see Gibbs go into the meet ranked in the low 20s, then place in the top eight," said Head Coach Trevor Miele.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Allegra Ingerson and freshmen Serena YanAmber Hunter and Isabelle Kitze participated on the 800-yard freestyle relay that recorded a team record-breaking time of 7:34.95 for a 12th-place overall finish, earning an Honorable Mention All-America.

"Our 800 free really was equally as impressive," added Miele. "We were ranked last going into the event, so to place in the top 12 in the nation and crush our team record was awesome."

- Senior captain Emily Doerner (56.37) placed 12th overall in the 100-yard backstroke finals, earning Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

"Another great night of racing," Miele continued. "We seem to be swimming better and better as the meet goes on, and I'm really looking forward to finishing strong tomorrow."
