From NYU Athletics

New York University's women's swimming & diving team is in fourth place after the third day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. The meet is being held over four days Wednesday-Saturday, February 11-14, at Emory University's Madeline Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets finished Friday's sessions with 757 points. Host Emory leads the competition (1,385) followed by Washington University-St. Louis (876) and the University of Chicago (806).

Senior captain Emily Doerner finished first in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries with a NCAA-qualifying and NYU record-breaking time of 55.29, and then proceeded to beat that time with her winning performance in the finals -- she set the new NYU record at 54.63. On the second day of competition, Doerner broke the NYU 100-yard backstroke record and participated on two record-breaking relay teams.

"We swam unbelievably well tonight," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We had some really amazing swims, and I am really proud of our effort tonight."

- Sophomore Elise Gibbs placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries (1:04.60), achieving a NCAA-cut and breaking the previous NYU record of 1:05.33.
