Rochester improved to 5-3 in dual meets in the current women's
swimming and diving season as the Yellowjackets defeated Nazareth
College, 173-119, on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets won nine individual events – Alex Veech won
two and swam on a winning relay -, took the opening 200 meter
medley relay, and swam the closing 400 meter freestyle relay in a
time that would have been victorious by eight seconds.
Veech was first in the 50 breaststroke (:34.82) and first in the
100 breaststroke (1:16.27). She swam the second leg of the winning
200 meter medley relay which was timed in 2:06.68. Ellen Swanson
led off, followed by Veech, Anna Mucci, and Emily Simon.
Jennifer Enos, who normally swims the distance events for the
Yellowjackets, won the 200 freestyle (2:17.34) and finished second
in the 100 freestyle (1:04.42) behind Vicky Luan (1:01.05).
Khamai Simpson won the 50 meter backstroke (:33.31). Lauren Bailey
was first in the 100 fly (1:06.32) and swam the 200 IM as an
exhibition event. Her time of 2:33.42 would have been victorious by
eight seconds.
The other event winners for Rochester were Kelly Moran in the 50
free (:29.71), Julia Herman in the 100 back (1:09.42), and Swanson
in the 50 fly (:31.58).
Avery Palardy was second in the 800 freestyle – she was
Rochester's top finisher in the event – and Erin Finnerty was
second in the 400 freestyle (4:51,62).
The closing 400 meter freestyle relay was comprised of Luan,
Palardy, Anna Mucci, and Finnerty. The quartet was clocked in
4:14.68.
Danielle Neu won the three meter board with an NCAA provisional
qualifying score of 254.70. Joanna Wallace was second (217.05) and
Carrie DeMoulin was third (208.85).
