Juniors Reed Dalton and Kristalyn McAfee of the Washington University in St. Louis swimming & diving teams were selected to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dalton was named to the Academic All-America Third Team, joining Alex Beyer (2009, 2010) as just the second individual in WashU men's swimming & diving history to garner Academic All-America honors. McAfee also received Academic All-America Third-Team honors, making her the fifth individual in WashU women's swimming & diving history to be an Academic All-American and the first since 2008.

"We are very proud of Kristalyn and Reed for being named Academic All-America. This is truly one of the highest honors that can be garnered by an NCAA student-athlete," head coach Brad Shively said. "They have continued to raise the bar each year as student-athletes and have played an important leadership role in the classroom as well as in the pool. We congratulate Kristalyn and Reed for their commitment to academic and athletic excellence."

Dalton became the fifth swimmer in WashU history to capture a national championship when he set new national and school records to win the 100 butterfly at the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. He also broke the school record in the 200 butterfly on his way to a sixth-place finish, while adding All-America honors as a member of the 400-medley and 400-free relays and All-America honorable mention accolades in the 200-free and 200-medley relays.

A 10-time All-American in his career, Dalton won his first individual University Athletic Association (UAA) title in 2015 by setting the conference record in the 100 butterfly, and added a pair of first-place relay finishes at the meet. A 2014 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America First Team and 2015 Academic All-UAA honoree, Dalton holds a 3.45 GPA while majoring in systems science & engineering.

McAfee, a five-time All-American in 2015, finished fifth in the 200 freestyle and swam on the Bears' third-place 800-free relay and sixth-place 400-free relay at the NCAA Championships. She broke her own school record in the 200 free, and helped both the 800-free and 400-free relays set school records at the meet as well. McAfee added All-America honorable mention accolades in the 100 free and the 400-medley relay this season to bring her career All-America finishes to 15.

The UAA Athlete of the Week Sept. 29, she also earned All-UAA honors in four events in 2015. A two-time CSCAA Scholar All-America and Academic All-UAA honoree, McAfee holds a 3.71 GPA while majoring in chemical engineering.

In order to be selected to an Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.
