The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team kept its remarkable streak of consecutive Liberty League titles alive, winning its seventh straight title on Saturday evening at RPI's Robison Pool.
The Yellowjackets accumulated 1728 team points, finishing ahead of a charging host RPI squad that ended with 1542 points. Vassar was a distant third (822) while RIT (714) and William Smith (664) rounded out the top five.
UR as a whole used a balanced effort from top to bottom to capture this title after dominating the 2014 version of this championship in its home pool last year. Over the weekend, UR only won six races, but its depth and key wins in the big point relay's lifted them to another title in 2015.
In session three on Saturday night, the Yellowjackets set two Liberty League records and broke an addition school record to highlight the final session.
Junior Emily Simon broke the conference record in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 53.06 seconds, leading four total Yellowjackets in the top-6 of that event. Vicky Luan was 3rd in 53.57 seconds while Becca Selznick was 4th (:53.86) and Natalie Wong was 6th (:54.32). Those four combined to set the other league record as well, closing out the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet clocked in at 3:33.47, breaking the old league mark by over 1.5 seconds.
The Rochester school record came in the 200 breaststroke from junior Alex Veech. Veech earned a 3rd place finish in the event but set a new school mark of 2:22.36 in the process.
Diver Danielle Neu earned her second NCAA Regional qualifying score of the weekend with a runner-up result in the 3 meter board. She totaled 413.60 points.
The Yellowjackets had three athletes crack the top-8 in the 200 butterfly, led by freshman Shannon Cahalan in 3rd, touching in 2:09.90. Sophomore Annie Thayer was 5th and freshman Tess Minigell was 7th. During the night session, Rochester also got top-8 swims from Madison Saliba and Julia Herman in the 200 backstroke. The duo finished in 6th and 7th place respectively.
