Emma Nicklas-Morris Sets Tartan Record at Kenyon TPSC Invitational

Freshman Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team competed at the opening night of the Kenyon College Total Performance Sports Camp Invitational on Thursday, December 1.

After the first night of competition which consisted of three events, the Tartans are fifth with 115 points with the University of Pennsylvania leading with 327 points.

Nicklas-Morris set the school record when she led off the 800-yard freestyle relay with a split of 1:51.95. Her time surpasses that of Molly Evans who set the previous record in 2010 with a time of 1:52.14 at the NCAA Championships. Nicklas-Morris and the team of junior Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), freshman Victoria Feng (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and senior Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) finished the race in 10th place with a time of 7:42.05.

Freshman Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas/Johnson) finished the 1,650-yard freestyle 17th overall in a time of 17:42.10 in her first time swimming the mile race.

The 200-yard medley relay of freshman Mary Day (Warren, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy), junior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn), senior Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton), and Kirkby began the meet with an eighth-place finish in a time of 1:47.47. The time is season-best for the event.
