Tartans Top Westminster and SUNY Geneseo at Final Home Meet

The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team returned from its annual training trip in Miami, Florida, to host Westminster College and SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, January 14. The Tartans won the meet in double-dual scoring by topping Westminster, 262-38, and Geneseo, 177-123.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the B team for Carnegie Mellon won when freshman Mary Day (Warren, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy), sophomore Hera Miao (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), senior Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), and freshman Victoria Feng (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) touched in 1:52.01.

Freshman Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) won three events for the Tartans. She first touched first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.05 and later in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.26. Her third victory of the day came in the 100-yard butterfly when she touched in 1:00.10.

Sophomore Cassidy Smith (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.96 with junior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) touching second in 1:08.54. The Tartans swept the 200-yard breaststroke when Feng touched first in 2:26.06, Smith second in 2:27.30, and Hochstedler third in 2:27.80.

Junior Mary St. John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) led a Tartan sweep in the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard IM. Her time in the butterfly was 2:10.69 as she was ahead of freshman Jocelyn Chan (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo School) in 2:13.35 and junior Sarah Winget (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) in 2:14.89. In the 400-yard IM, St. John touched the wall in 4:38.70 with Feng touching second in 4:39.73 and junior Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) third in 4:41.13.

Senior Machika Kaku won the 1-meter diving event with 269.10 points and finished second on the 3-meter board with 265.75 points.
