CWRU Wraps-Up Competition at the Midwest Invitational

A small squad of Case Western Reserve University swimmers finished competition on Saturday at the two-day Midwest Invitational, hosted by the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

For the women, sophomore Ashley Schuett finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.68), fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (55.09) and notched a ninth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (25.32). Freshman Becca Segel placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.05), sixth in the 200-yard IM (2:18.60, career-best time) and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.81). Junior Kaitlyn Gorski added a third-place finish in the 1,650-yrad freestyle (18:45.91), a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.29), and a seventh-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.15, season-best time). Rounding out the top women's individual performances, freshman Joanne Tan finished fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:16.53), seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.13) and ninth in the 400-yard IM (4:57.52).

Gorski and Tan also teamed with junior Abigail Dessart and freshman Karine Zeidan in the 400-yard medley relay to finish second with a time of 4:24.64. Additionally, Schuett and Segel teamed with freshman Erin Hartmann and senior Selena Mufti in the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish fifth with a time of 1:45.91.
