The Case Western Reserve University women's swimming and diving team sits in first place after the second day of competition at the Wooster Invitational.
The women have totaled 1,205 points to lead second-place Edinboro (922) and third-place Westminster (757). A total of nine men's teams and 10 women's teams are in action at the meet.
The Spartan women were particularly strong in both the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, finishing with four 'A' final finishers in the 400-yard IM and three 'A' final finishers in the 100-yard back. The 400-yard IM 'A' final finishers were freshman Julia Ver Voort (third, 4:44.19), freshman Olivia Picchione (fifth, 4:47.26), senior Selena Mufti (sixth, 4:51.97) and junior Taylor Johnson (eighth, 4:54.82). The 100-yard back 'A' final finishers were sophomore Bhavya Kumaran (third, 1:00.19), sophomore Ashley Schuett (fifth, 1:01.18) and freshman Victoria Schoenig (seventh, 1:02.04).
Other 'A' final finishers for the Spartan women on Friday included sophomore Casey Crowley (fourth,58.66) and freshman Monica Khare (seventh, 59.22) in the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Lauren Homack (fourth, 1:58.25) and sophomore Kelsey Holmberg (fifth, 1:58.36) in the 200-yard freestyle, and sophomore Alli Drohosky (sixth, 1:09.16) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Spartans women's 200-yard medley relay of Kumaran, Drohosky, Crowley and junior Jennifer Eurich added a second-place finish with a time of 1:47.53.
Junior Brooke Hortness finished third in the women's one-meter dive with a score 346.60.
