Eagles Post 14 NCAA "B" Cut Times; Sit in Second at Both Miami and SCAD Invites

The Emory University Women's Swimming & Diving team got off to a strong start on Thursday at the Miami and SCAD Invitationals, recording a total of 14 NCAA qualifying times at the two meets.

After one day of competition, the Eagles are in third place at the Miami Invite with 170.5 points behind first place Miami (343) and second place Bowling Green (185.5). At the SCAD Invite, Emory sits in second place with a total of 173 points.

Sophomore Fiona Muir led the Eagles on day one of the Miami Invite, posting the lone first place showing on the evening. Muir took first in the 50 Free with a NCAA "B" Cut time of 23.16 following a mark of 23.12 swam during the morning prelims. Muir added a second place finish in the 400 Medley along with junior Cindy Cheng and seniors Annelise Kowalsky and Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe with a NCAA "B" Cut time of 3:44.39. Muir was also part of the third place 200 Free Relay also consisting of sophomore Meg Taylorand seniors Sanchez-Aizcorbe and Marissa Bergh that touched with a NCAA qualifying mark of 1:32.43.

The Eagles tacked on an additional three NCAA qualifying marks in the 500 Free with Cheng taking second with a time of 4:51.85, sophomore Ava Salmi finishing 12th at 4:59.51 and freshman Maria Turcan finishing 13th at 5:00.06 (4:59.99 in prelims).

To go along with Muir in the 50 Free, Emory saw three other NCAA "B" Cut registered with Bergh tying for seventh in the A final at 23.72 (23.71 in prelims), Taylor in 11th place at 23.67 and senior Claire Liu right behind her in 12th with a time of 23.74.

Over in the SCAD meet in Savannah, GA, sophomore Katelyn Mitchell swam a B cut time in the 200 IM, finishing fourth in the event at 2:04.82. Mitchell was the lone Emory swimmer to notch a NCAA qualifying time on Thursday as the Eagles will head into day two in second place.
