From Emory University Athletics

After posting five event championships on Thursday night, the Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving program tacked on another six Association event titles on Friday, building a monumental lead heading into the final day of competition at the University Athletic Association Championships.

Through two days of action, the Eagles have amassed titles in 11 of the 12 swimming events contested, lifting them to a 282.5 point lead with 1,270 total points. New York University checks in in second place at 987.5 points followed by Chicago (973), Washington (739), Carnegie Mellon (692), Rochester (458.5), Case Western Reserve (382) and Brandeis (126).

Emory began Friday's finals session with a record-breaking performance in the 200 Medley Relay. The group of junior Cindy Cheng, seniors Annelise Kowalsky, Megan Campbell and sophomore Meg Taylor set a UAA record in the event with a time of 1:41.78.

In the 400 IM, sophomore Julia Durmer claimed her first career UAA title, earning the top spot with a time of 4:20.26. Junior Ming Ong added All-UAA honors in the event, placing third with a time of 4:28.25.

In addition to Durmer, Cheng, Kowalsky, and sophomore Fiona Muir all registered their second individual event title of the meet Friday night. Muir was victorious in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:49.70. Kowalsky recorded her second career UAA title in the 100 Breast, touching at 1:03.09. Cheng set a UAA record en route to winning the 800 Freestyle in a time of 55.07.

The Eagles closed out Friday with a dominant showing in the 800 Freestyle Relay, winning the event by over seven seconds. The group of Muir, Taylor, Cheng and senior Marissa Bergh threw down a time of 7:25.15, eclipsing the previous UAA record by over three seconds (7:28.54).

Adding All-UAA honors for the Eagles were senior Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe (2^nd, 55.67 in prelims) and freshman Maria Kyle (3^rd, 55.92) in the 100 Butterfly, sophomore Hannah Lally in the 100 Breast (2^nd, 1:04.31), and freshman Caroline Olson (2^nd, 55.93 in prelims) and junior Sia Beasley (3^rd, 56.78 in prelims).

Emory will look to win its 19^th straight UAA title and 25^th overall as the UAA Championships conclude on Saturday. Events on the final day include the women's 1-meter diving, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 1,650 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
